Fundamental study of precision laser machining of materials

HPLA's investigations in laser/matter interactions focus on three areas: fundamental understanding of physical mechanisms, novel laser-based industrial applications and product engineering and development. These focus areas channel sound fundamental knowledge towards practical applications by investigating concepts in their formative stages and steering their evolution to solve actual industrial challenges.

We are concerned with high power laser interactions with:

  • exotic and non-exotic metals;
  • plastics and polymers;
  • ceramics;
  • various types of glasses.
